 You Just Want Attention

In today’s time of changing algorithms, brands may wonder if it’s worth it to be active on Facebook, since it’s so difficult to be seen organically in the News Feed. Luckily, the platform redesigned its business Pages to include easily accessible reservation buttons, increased visibility to stories, customized business information features, and more. These changes make it easier for brands to target and serve their audiences, staying relevant and visible. Enjoy the attention, you deserve it.

 Twitter Tweets

#Rebranding is never easy, even if you’re Twitter. The social media giant is taking to its own platform to reintroduce itself to brands and marketing agencies with its #StartWithThem campaign. The initiative asserts that Twitter users are more engaged and influential, but doesn’t provide any data to back up its claims. Without any stats, will brands — particularly those in the B2B space — be enticed to use the platform to launch products or campaigns, tying them to large cultural conversations of the day, as Twitter hopes? If at first it doesn’t succeed, perhaps Twitter should tweet, tweet, tweet again.

 Growth Got Ya Down?

Facebook isn’t the only social media platform with a loss of user engagement. Despite a strong Q2 earnings report, Snapchat’s daily users shrunk by 1.5 percent, from 191 million to 188 million. The company did, however, beat its earnings expectation, notching $262.3 million in revenue. But with Instagram Stories’ 400 million users, competition is tight. We’re going to have to see if Snapchat disappears like its pictures do.

Who What Wear

H&M’s new millennial fashion brand, /Nyden, is settling the argument of whether or not anyone can be a designer. Its answer? A resounding yes. /Nyden (a combination of the Swedish words for "new" and "it," plus a backslash to represent "co-creation") recently asked its followers to be a part of the design process. Partnering with famous Instagram influencers and using the platform’s poll tool, /Nyden’s target users were asked which clothing options they prefer: Sequins or fringe? Bold colors or neutrals? Sleeves or no sleeves? Specific results weren’t revealed, but shoppers will see two dress designs based upon how people cast their votes.

Next time you’re in a meeting discussing whether your brand should do this or that, consider going directly to the source. In addition to IG polls, there are tons of ways to garner public opinion using social media: Facebook Live, the Instagram question sticker, or just encouraging your audience to tweet or message you directly for general interaction. In this instance, turning over a portion of the design process may seem like a risky move for /Nyden. But as the saying goes, in fashion, one day you’re in and the next you’re out. /Nyden’s bold move could mean that it never gets the boot.
