Modkid Annika with a Gathered Shirttail

Friday, November 9, 2018

The fall and winter sewing ideas are rolling in, and I'm hoping to inspire you to customize the Modkid Annika Sweater sewing pattern with a gathered shirttail hem. The Modkid Annika can take on a sweater look or more of a sweatshirt style depending on your choice of fabric. This quilted knit  from Hobby Lobby gives a sophisticated sweatshirt style. Combining a woven fabric for the ruffle adds texture and an opportunity to mix prints, solids, or stripes.

The Modkid Annika pattern comes with one design for a shirttail hem. Swapping the button-up style shirttails for a gathered ruffle creates a whole new look.

The step-by-step tutorial for creating the gathered shirttail is on the Modkid Blog today.

Besides adding a bit of femininity, the ruffle lengthens the sweatshirt to pair well with jeggings and leggings. My kids jump at the chance to wear garments this cozy!

Not only does the lap shoulder detail add uniqueness to this sweathshirt pattern, but it is also a bit easier to sew if neckbands in the round give you fits. One more reason you need the Annika pattern in your knit sewing arsenal!

What is your kid's go-to fall style? Since the Modkid Annika also comes in tween/teen sizing I'm sure I will be making my oldest her own version sometime this winter.

First, grab your copy of the Modkid Annika Girls or Modkid Annika Tween/Teen. Then, head over to the tutorial post for adding this gathered shirttail twist. Be sure to show me what you create!
