Maybelline Berry Misbehaved & Orange Ya Glad Color Blur Cream Matte Pencil Review

Maybelline 15 Berry Misbehaved, 20 Orange Ya Glad Color Blur Cream Matte Pencil

Nothing says summer like bold, bright lips and that’s exactly what Maybelline delivers with the new Color Blur Cream Matte Pencils. The second the sun and warm weather breaks I’m itching to shed my vampier lippies for bold pops of pink and coral. That’s why Berry Misbehaved and Orange Ya Glad seemed to be right up my alley.

They scream summer and have a fun, playful vibe that’ll brighten up any look. Berry Misbehaved is a bright hot pink fuchsia with a slight warm undertone and Orange Ya Glad is a bright mandarin orange with a hint of red and a warm undertone. They come in slightly chubby retractable pencils with a slant tip and a smudger on the opposite end. Unfortunately, the Color Blur Pencils sport the same offbeat powdery floral scent as the Color Sensational Matte Lipsticks so beware if you have a sensitive nose.

The scent isn’t the only thing that’s similar between the Color Blur Cream Matte Pencils and the Color Sensational Matte Lipsticks. Not only do they sport the same fragrance and finish but the formulas are also very similar. To be completely honest, Berry Misbehaved and Orange Ya Glad felt a lot like the Color Sensational Matte Lipsticks in pencil form. Both shades applied smoothly with a lightweight, creamy formula and intense pigmentation. There are some minor differences though. For starters, the Color Blur Pencils don’t seem to apply as well as the Color Sensational Matte Lipsticks. Both Berry Misbehaved and Orange Ya Glad went on slightly patchy and it took a couple of layers to even out the color. They also seemed to hug the lips a little more and aren’t as emollient so they’re slightly more matte than the Color Sensational Lipsticks.

Which can be a plus if you aren’t into the new creamy matte formulas we’ve been seeing lately. However, if you have dry lips like mine you’ll have to be on your A game and prep your lips with a good scrub and balm (like these goodies here). Berry Misbehaving or Orange Ya Glad aren’t drying but both colors seemed to emphasize flakes and lightly settle into lip lines–which, of course, tends to get worse as the color begins to fade after 4-5 hours. I definitely recommend lining your lips all over with a matching lip pencil or primer.

Overall, Berry Misbehaved and Orange Ya Glad has their perks with their fun, bold colors, non-drying matte formula and chubby pencil packaging which makes application a breeze (minus the patchiness). But the formula falls short a bit on my dry lips. I still think they’re nice lipsticks but I prefer the Color Sensational Matte Lipsticks over the Color Blur Cream Matte Pencils so far.
