Four sons of former Brisbane Lions and Fitzroy greats had the unique opportunity to train with an AFL Senior side for a week.

Casey Voss, son of three-time Premiership captain Michael Voss; Jake Bradshaw, son of Daniel Bradshaw; James Rendell, son of Fitzroy’s Matt Rendell and Lachlan Harris, son of Fitzroy great Leon Harris were members of the Lions squad for a week.

The four aspiring players took part in every session; from boxing, to field and lifting weights in the gym. They learned first-hand the commitment, determination and hard work ethic it takes to succeed in an AFL list.

“The boys have handled it really well,” Leon Harris, father of Lachlan and the Lions’ recruitment consultant said.

“Hopefully they’ve got a football future with the Brisbane Lions, certainly their roots are at the Club.

“The boys who have come up here have all got aspirations to play AFL footy so we’re putting them with the Senior guys.”

Harris played 186 games for Fitzroy and kicked 100 goals in his time. But he hopes the four players understand that every player has to start somewhere.

“I think the lesson they learn is that the older blokes start the same as where they are coming from. So it’s just a matter of them getting their opportunity," Harris said.

“Certainly the experience and exposure helps them going forward.”
