Craving a spur-of-the-moment weekend trip? You don't need a passport to head to the U.S. Virgin Islands, making it an easy option for a last-minute vacation.

The U.S. territory consists of three Caribbean islands (plus around 50 minor islands and cays) with sugar-sand beaches and excellent snorkeling. Travelers can choose between St. Croix, the largest island; St. Thomas, best known as a busy cruise port; and St. John, a 19-square-mile spot, of which 60 percent is protected as a national park.

It's tricky to find purely all-inclusive resorts in the U.S. Virgin Islands. Some properties like Emerald Beach Resort and The Buccaneer used to offer half- and full-board rates but have discontinued these packages. Fortunately, there are still a couple of all-inclusive resorts, so you can spend less time worrying about your bill and more time enjoying the colorful reefs and warm turquoise waters.

Divi Carina Bay Beach Resort & Casino, St. Croix

Divi Carina Bay isn't just a stunning beachfront hotel — it's the sole adults-only all-inclusive resort on St. Croix. In addition to the on-site casino, the property has two freshwater pools, four pickleball courts, and a tennis court. While you'll be reluctant to leave, the staff can also help arrange excursions to some of the best spots in the U.S. Virgin Islands, including the Captain Morgan Rum Distillery and the Salt River Bay National Historical Park and Ecological Preserve.

Is relaxing at a swim-up bar a requisite part of your U.S. Virgin Islands vacation? That's not a problem here. All-inclusive packages at the family-run Bolongo Bay cover unlimited drinks and all meals (dining is a la carte — no buffets here). All non-motorized water sports (kayaks, stand-up paddleboards, and the like) are included, too. While catamaran excursions will cost you extra, you won't want to miss the sunset cocktail sail or turtle snorkeling tour offered several times a week.
