They may be wee, but they’re getting a big update. In a nod to the increasing appetite for VOD, Belgium-based IMPS is teaming up with ODMedia and Expoza in The Netherlands to bring the 272 original episodes of Hanna-Barbera’s The Smurfs to YouTube.

Each 24-minute ep will be digitized and remastered in HD for a branded YouTube channel, which is part of IMPS’s digital strategy to boost the little blue characters’ web presence and better connect the brand’s digital products like its existing apps, website and online shop.

As ODMedia’s dedicated branch for helping content owners build YouTube channels, Expoza is overseeing the build of the official Smurfs YouTube channel, set to be available in 40 languages.

Created by Peyo and Hanna-Barbera in the 1980s, The Smurfs has expanded to film and a host of ancillary products.
