Green is the New Black: Green Living Experts

Educate

Eco-friendly blogs are blooming into popularity, and all of us at Del Mar Fans & Lighting are dedicated to conserving energy around the office as well as around our homes. In an effort to be greener, we took to the office white board and discussed several simple ways that we could improve our green status, such as turning off our ceiling fans and lights when we’re not home and switching out old incandescent light bulbs for newer, more energy efficient LED light bulbs. Along the way, we shared some of our favorite eco-friendly blogs and the writers behind them.

Our Favorite Eco-Friendly Bloggers
Author, Editor, Green Eco Blogger Beth Buczynski

Author of Sharing Is Good and a well-known green living writer, Beth makes our list because she is incredibly passionate about spreading the word of today’s most pressing and concerning issues. Not only is she an author, but she is also an editor, eco blogger, and an all-around powerhouse. In 2009, she was named one of the “Top 75 Environmentalists to Follow on Twitter” by Mashable as well as one of the “Top 3 Green Twitterati” by At Home Magazine.

You can find Beth’s byline on sites such as Inhabitat and Shareable, just to name a few. As a ceiling fan and lighting company, we pride ourselves on carrying more efficient options, and we are always on the lookout for new ideas that will assist us on our mission to be more eco-friendly. So, of course, some of our favorite articles from Beth include “30 Things You Had No Idea You Could Turn Into A Lamp” and “19 Things You Should Never, Ever Throw In the Trash."

Greenwell Founder, Journalist, Speaker Kim Button

Author of The Everything Guide to a Healthy Home and an eco-friendly blog enthusiast, Kim makes our list because the story about how she transformed her life is truly inspiring. Kim’s drive to overcome a life of sickness and illnesses, including cancer, by making significantly healthier changes is eye opening. She truly is a champion of green living.

Besides being an author, Kim is also the founder of greenWell, an eco-wellness consulting company based in Orlando, FL. Her articles have been featured in Martha Stewart’s Whole Living and National Geographic Traveler, and she has appeared on major national networks such as NBC, FOX, and CBS. Some of our favorite articles by Kim include “GE Reveal Bulbs Compared to Incandescent" and "8 Places Dust Mites Can Hide."

Groovy Green Livin Founder, Speaker, Recovering Attorney Lori Popkewitz

Lori’s site is resplendent with simple green living ideas and tons of valuable information to help ease you into a healthier lifestyle. We applaud her courageous decision to pursue her passion for a healthier and greener life, and we thank her for enriching the lives of those around her by sharing her journey.

Watkins, and Better Life. Her articles have appeared on sites such as Green Child Magazine, Modern Hippie Magazine, and Healthy Child, Healthy World. Because of our love for Energy Star products, we couldn’t get enough of Lori's two articles "5 Ways to Go Green and Save Green" and "Join Team ENERGY STAR in the Epic Fight to Protect the Climate."

Green Living Directive, Blog Writer, Stonyfield And Filtrete Brand Ambassador Micaela Preston

Micaela is like your very own green living detective; she’ll help you discover new and exciting ways to live a healthier lifestyle. Her eco-friendly blog is informative, and not at all stuffy or overwhelming. She’s like that one friend that you always go to for advice (you know, the one that you actually listen to). Her blog began as a way to clarify misconstrued or misleading information, and to provide people, like herself, with the facts and some peace of mind.

Not only is she an author, but she is also a Brand Ambassador for Stonyfield and Filtrete. Rachel Ray magazine, Juice Beauty, and Better Life make up just a few of her clients. Some of our favorite articles from Micaela include “How to Choose a Light Bulb (CFL? LED? HELP!)" and "Top Ways to Air Out Your Home For Spring."

We love her article "Make Spring Cleaning Not Suck: Friends, Food and Fabulous Scents are Key" because, let’s be honest, cleaning isn’t always fun, especially when you’re not sure how to clean ceiling fans or other odd objects. Also, her article "A Love for (Upcycled) Clocks: Artist Shannon Ruby Finds Time for Making" is a fun and interesting read.
