National Podcast Day ’14: Gamertag Radio Now With Half A Million Downloads in just 9 Months
We’re celebrating National Podcast Day! It’s a day dedicated to promoting podcasting through education and public engagement. And our podcast just hit a new milestone! For the first time in nine years, Gamertag Radio has reached over half a million downloads in just 9 months. Making it in total – 3.5 million unique downloads! The goal is to hit 4 million some time early next year.
This is a huge achievement for us. Thanks to our community for the support and our hard working team! 2014 is by far the biggest year for the podcast. That’s all independent.
Here’s the our download stats from 2010-2014:
- 347,347 – 2010 (March-Dec)
- 316,707 – 2011
- 246,785 – 2012
- 356,539 – 2013
- 500,000+ – 2014 (Jan-Sept)
The majority of our downloads has been through smartphones. Back in 2005, the only way people downloaded our podcast was through PC. Years later, we decided to start focusing on smartphones. That’s why we created our own Gamertag Radio app (BTW…it’s FREE!). We added a lot of weekly bonus content exclusively for GTR App users and this is a much easier way for listeners to download the show on-the-go.
Download our app – it’s FREE!

For those wondering what’s Apple Core Media?
Apple Core Media is the process that renders audio and visual content on Apple products including the iPad, iPhone, and other platforms.
That’s where we get the majority of our downloads for the show. Remember, you can’t forget of other devices such as Android and Windows Phone. Gamertag Radio has more downloads coming from smartphones than anything else. I’ve been saying this for a long time. Mobile isn’t just the future, it’s the present. Podcasters should really focus on that. For example, the new iOS8 update is making the podcast app native. Which means that every iOS 8 user will have the app and can’t delete it. Apple sold 10 million of the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus models in the first three days they were available in stores. That’s more than last year’s launch.
Podcasting Statistics via Technology Advice interview with Rob Walch:
- 63% of listeners listen to 3 or fewer podcasts
- 63% of all podcasts were consumed through mobile devices, a 20% jump over the previous year
- 4.9:1, the ratio of Apple device downloads to Android downloads
- 1,700:1, the ratio of bloggers to podcasters
- 1,700 – Number of average downloads per podcast episode
The team also worked really hard on creating weekly content. Having special guests, exclusive interviews or event coverages, debates, reviews and fan mail questions for the show.
