Mobile data collection technology scores highest in affordability, usability, rapidity, scalability and transferability

WASHINGTON D.C. (PRWEB) September 29, 2014

Magpi, a leading provider of configurable, cloud-based mobile data collection and communication applications, today announced it was rated the highest among digital data collection apps in Kopernik's Impact Tracker Technologies (ITT) Catalogue. Kopernik, an Indonesia-based non-profit organization connecting simple technology with last mile communities to reduce poverty, created the catalogue as a way to provide nonprofits and social enterprises recommendations on available low-cost technologies to help collect data on a large-scale, real-time basis.

Magpi received the highest overall rating of 4.5 out of 5. Kopernik assessed the tools in digital data collection apps and SMS communication platform categories based on five criteria: affordability, usability, rapidity, scalability and transferability.

“Out of all the data collection technologies we studied, we found Magpi to be the most versatile, making it easy to build forms for any sectors and by different scales of organizations,” said Vivien Ayun, research & business development officer, Kopernik. “With its ‘freemium' approach, Magpi provides comprehensive features for a very low cost. Anyone with basic computer skills can use the software to build forms and collect data.”

Magpi's top rating was awarded thanks to its rich functionalities that address field data collection needs, including text-to-speech capability, subform integrations, automatic device synchronization, as well as scheduled broadcast messages. Among its best features, Kopernik also noted the application works on iPhone, Android, Blackberry and Symbian phones, and data collection with SMS and web-based entry can be integrated.

“We are honored to be the highest ranked mobile data collection app in Kopernik's study,” said Dr. Joel Selanikio, CEO and co-founder, Magpi. “We have worked hard to ensure Magpi empowers organizations to conduct their field data collection activities easily and at an affordable price, and it's great to see this work validated. As we expand our footprint into the commercial sector, including the energy and utilities, research, and construction industries, we will look to continue innovating and serving as a resource for field workers everywhere.”

Magpi, formerly DataDyne, was founded in 2003 by two global health and technology experts from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the American Red Cross. Magpi is the longest running data collection technology in international development and is widely used in the global health and international development sectors. Magpi recently announced plans to expand its footprint to the commercial sector, along with the release of Magpi 2.0, making it easier and more affordable to create form-based mobile apps and outgoing SMS and voice messages. Magpi empowers businesses in need of surveys, inspections, compliance audits, research, supply chain management, geo-data information collection and other forms to simply create a mobile form, then deploy it in minutes to any device.

Kopernik's research included countless hours of browsing the tools' websites in order to understand a range of items including features, usage, and pricing; experimenting with as many of the tools as possible; and interviewing tech developers and users.
