HHS Office of Health Reform Director Mike Hash to Resign

Mike Hash, director of the HHS Office of Health Reform, will step down at the end of this month, according to a Morning Consult report.

Mr. Hash will be the third HHS official to step down within the last month in the wake of a bumpy rollout for the federal health insurance exchange website, HealthCare.gov. Kathleen Sebelius resigned as HHS secretary in April, and CMS Principal Deputy Administrator Jonathan Blum is due to leave his post May 16.

In a letter to HHS staff obtained by the Consult, Ms. Sebelius writes Mr. Hash served the agency "much longer than he had ever planned." He took over leadership of OHR in 2011 and played an important role in the implementation of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act exchanges, which have enrolled more than 8 million people.

"Over the span of his career, Mike's contributions to this country's health policy have been immeasurable," Ms. Sebelius wrote. "He has left an indelible mark through his tireless work. While I am sad to see Mike leave the Department, I am honored to have the opportunity to work with him."
