A rogue shark has been captured after biting a hole in a small fishing boat – then trying to EAT the skipper.

Skipper Hamish Currie said it was like a “scene from Jaws” as the 7ft Porbeagle - related to the Great White family, went on the attack.

First the beast chewed a large hole in the side of his inflatable rib - then it took a bite out of Hamish's boot.

Hamish's boot: Shark took a bite out of Hamish's shoe

Hamish, 53, from Saltcoats, Ayrshire, was fishing off the coast of the Isle of Islay when he came across the monster attacking seals.

said: “I have caught a lot of sharks in my time but this one was a bad bad fish.

“As soon as we got up there we saw the big fin moving through the water and I used some live cod bait to get him hooked.

“I battled him for about an hour and a half and at one stage we had to chase him and he was pulling away.

“Then as we got him closer his eyes turned towards me in a way only shark's can do and knew he was going try and destroy whatever stood in his way.

Hole lot of trouble: Damage to the side of the boat caused by the shark

“He rammed us and the whole boat shook and then chewed a hole in the boat which isn't ideal if you are in an inflatable.

“We pulled him on deck with the plan to tag him but he wasn't having it and was trying to get at us.

“You couldn't get near him and as he thrashed his way across the deck he got my boot in his mouth.

“I'm not scared of sharks but this one terrified me.

“I had to lock myself in the wheelhouse until he was exhausted enough for us to get him back over the side.

“Most sharks in British waters don't care about humans but this one was different. He was a bad one.”
