The 2012 Summer Olympics have finally come to an end, with some athletes returning home heroes and others returning zeros. To commemorate the games, London enlisted some of its own national treasures to send the Olympians off in style.
British acts, young and old, good and “eh” crowded the stage at the closing ceremonies, including the Spice Girls, Annie Lennox, The Who, One Direction, The Pet Shop Boys, George Michael (fresh from the brink of death thanks to a pneumonia scare) and Jessie J, who did a digital duet with the late Freddie Mercury, courtesy of modern hologram technology.
In a celebration of British design, supermodels Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell stormed the runway in Alexander McQueen. However, some felt Moss and Campbell’s free-wheelin’, freebasin’ history of drug use flew in the face of everything the Olympics stand for.
But even a few naysayers couldn’t rain on London’s parade with many agreeing that the ceremony was a cheesy delight.
How about we take this to the next level?

Eric Idle stole the show, as a Pythonite anyway it was easily the highlight of the show and it helped that he was brilliant too.
The athletes celebrating together was the crown jewel of the whole ceremony. Brilliantly done, and I’m really proud of how my nation conducted the whole Olympics.

I missed the closing ceremony last night. Did NBC run a boring, hour-long history
lesson on the political career of Margaret Thatcher?

“…with some athletes returning home heroes and others returning zeros.”
Even the athletes that participated in the Olympics without earning medals have much, much to be proud of. An Olympian deserves more respect than to be called a “zero” by some anonymous, self-amusing, catty queen sitting behind a computer (and most likely) not brave or talented enough to make it to the sub-sub qualifying Olympic meets, let alone actually participate in the Olympics.
Shame on you for being shallow and faggy, Queerty. AGAIN.

I found the closing ceremonies were all about the performers, and very little to do with the actual athletes they were suppose to be celebrating. And don’t get me started on Annie Lenox’s lip synching.

Where was Elton. Was he off somewhere performing at a Republican fund-raiser or something? If only the English government was willing to cough up $1,000,000 for him to come to the Olympics instead of to Rush Limbaugh’s house.

It’s unfortunate that NBC edited-out over 60-minutes of the entertainment for their own self-promotion and other Network fluff. A number of the performances went totally-missing from the Network’s feed on the East Coast.
Shameful.

I watched the entire thing wanting to see Kate Bush and NBC cut it. Epic Fail NBC

The first 15 minutes of the closing ceremony were better than the entire opening ceremony. It would have been better had they gotten Andrew Ridgeley to reunite for a Wham reunion.

George Michael looked and sounded great.
