Hello everyone, and welcome to my blog!

I’m Patrick Darcy. Rugby player, Irishman and writer of full strength gay erotica.

Follow me, as I comment on life in Dublin, hot men and all the things that make me tick.

By day I’m a young advertising executive, living in the beautiful city of Dublin, Ireland. Working for an international media company takes me all over the world and lets me get up to all kinds of mischief! And I can’t wait to tell you all about it on my blog.

For me, sex should be passionate, intense, sweaty, dirty fun and a no holds barred affair! That’s what I try to capture in my writing, and that’s where I like to take the reader.

The reader should be in the heart of the action, to smell, feel, touch and taste. To be totally immersed in the eroticism of the story.

Not all my stories are set in Dublin, but they all follow my heart’s desires.

There are two big passions in my life: great sex and rugby. Quite often, these are combined! I love the thrill of competition, the power, the intensity, the brotherhood of rugby.

Oh, and I love being naked!

Let me start out by saying that you’ll want to have some humor in your heart as you read this review. To be cheeky is necessary. Ready? Ok here we go…

So, Connor, what’s it like to be the star of this story? If he was able to answer, he’d probably tell you it was fantastic and he’s worthy of such intensely concentrated attention. His current… ‘love’ interest, Oisin, would probably agree, while at the same time bringing Connor food or a drink or something.
Connor is cocky, snarky and serious about his rugby, the team and taking any opportunity he can to use the word ‘hole’, in any context.

I wouldn’t classify this as a romance. It’s basically bang-bang sex. Well, for Connor it is. Oisin? Not so much. He gets to bang, but only in the first half of said bang-bang. Otherwise, he’s made to wait.

This related point is something that didn’t sit right with me, at least based on my interpretation of it: interchangeability. Interchangeability exhibited in the portrayal of submissive = bottom and dom = top.
I’m no expert (not being facetious), but that just doesn’t wash. Just because you, Connor, call someone, Oisin, a slave and don’t let him cum until you feel like letting him loose once you’ve had your fill of everything else, this doesn’t a BDSM relationship make. There’s a particular line that undermines the entire portrayal of this as a BDSM relationship. I’ll let you discover it for yourself.

These are definitely Irish rugby players, who’ve made it to the tournament taking place in England. Words like arse, bai, jaezus and the like are sprinkled throughout the dialogue. I love this. I love Ireland, I love going there. I love the people, who have always been kind, helpful and ready to share a story over a pint and an open-faced sammy. This is one of the reasons I really wanted to love this book.

The word “Confessions” in the title should be taken to heart. This is written in the first person (Connor, of course!) and reads like a diary: it is all Connor, all the time, sometimes repetitious and is voiced by someone speaking without a filter. An example: the three-letter and six-letter versions of a specific term are used liberally during the first half of this story. Your clue is that some Brits use the three-letter version as another term for a ciggy. To put this a different way, if you enjoy the world of Archie Bunker, you’ll love being in Connor’s. Or, if you’re of the younger crowd, Dave Chapelle would be getting a run for his money. That dual feeling of, holy crap I think this may be funny as hell, and at the same time thinking he/she/I/we/you should not be saying this stuff. If you’re easily offended, this isn’t a book for you. If you like to be the envelope getting pushed, give it a try.

A porno sitcom is the best I’ve been able to come up with as a way to try and describe this book in just two words. You know, if someone were to make me.

About half way through, we get into a lot of rugby talk as matches, activities surrounding matches and plays on the pitch are all described in great detail. If you love rugby, wow, are you going to love this part of the book.

However, it’s at about this same point that I read a sentence that stopped me in my tracks and almost made me stop reading. Even with my knowledge of the abuse scandal within the Catholic church in Ireland (and here in the US and elsewhere), my initial reaction was “what the hell?” and I shook my head rapidly, as if trying to repel the shock. My second reaction was a result of having this knowledge and therefore I’m pretty sure I understood the intention and the context. If you aren’t one who is knowledgeable of this subject, of its scope? It sounds extremely flippant towards an issue about which flippancy is one hundred percent unacceptable. This was the most glaring example of the dueling natures of this book. Hints of sweetness tucked in amongst the unabashed language, which is then punctuated by these seeming throwaway lines about subjects that should not at all be dealt with as such.

I will say this about this book, it made me think about some issues I did not at all expect to ponder while reading it.

The writing is ok, with an unmistakable point of view, if a bit schizophrenic. There are some issues with missing words or extra, likely unintentional words. The repetition of phrases, activities, including sex, hindered what little story there is here from going very far. There are also a lot of character names of which to try and keep track. I definitely felt like I had parachuted down into someone’s life and a final exam on knowing them all was happening rightnowrightnowrightnow!

This feels like it is meant for a very specific audience, particularly regarding the language and sports-heavy focus.

So, to summarize: if you are obsessive about rugby, so much so that inconsistencies float by in your blind spot, and you aren’t easily offended, this may be your next read. Also, if you’ve read the first three in this series and enjoyed them, then you will probably enjoy this one. I have not read those and maybe that altered my experience, as well.

Note: I truly had no idea what rating to give this book. Hence, the rating it received. Like I said… cheeky. :)

(ARC provided by author in exchange for an honest review)

I’ve had the first three of Patrick’s Confessions of a Gay Rugby Player on my Kindle for a while and just never got round to reading them. What I was waiting for I don’t know because this series rocks! Frig me it’s HAWT and the more you read the more you want. I do hope that Mr Darcy is in his writing cave…… I need more!

Right, after a few cold showers I’ve decided that I can now sit and write this review. I think, maybe. We’ll see how it goes.

I started reading book #4 on the bus home from work and spent the majority of the trip laughing and getting funny looks. So good.
The book is told from Conors’ POV and is written as if he was actually sat chatting to you. I love it when a book brings you in and has you feeling as though you’ve made a new best mate.

Conor is a hot gay rugby player. No, seriously he is. He’s rude, crude and horny as hell and he made me wish I was a dude. The thought processes that run through his head are hilarious and honestly….. I kinda run on a similar wavelength. This will probably explain why I connected so well with him. You can’t help but keep your fingers crossed that things will work out for him.

As the title suggests there is a little rugby in the book but not enough to have you start skim reading. It has been well balanced out and the mix of erotica, rugby and Irish men drinking and having a laugh. I love the way that although this is book #4 in the series it is still fresh and leaves you wanting more. The story has moved on well and carried through the books at a nice pace.

I really, really, really want to tell you all about this book. The characters, the stuff that Conor comes out with but I want give spoilers. If you haven’t read this series then you really are missing out on a great read. Pick it up, sit down and prepare to have your Kindle melt and your side hurt from laughing. Mr Darcy, you have a new fan!

A review by The Blogger Girls.

Woohoo! Conor is back at the top of his game again, at least on the field. There is, of course, a lot of rugby action this time around with the guys heading to London for a tournament. But, this time around, things are a bit different for Conor, as he now has a boyfriend, Oisin, a sexy little sub that Conor is learning to play the dom for. I quite enjoyed watching Conor making Oisin suffer through a bit of orgasm denial here and there, but there is also a bit of adjusting going on with Conor getting used to being in a bit of a relationship. Oisin is sure to make it known to all that Conor is off limits, which was a bit disappointing when some of the regulars are back on the radar.

And then there is the Sean issue. Boy did I want to bitch slap that boy! Conor and Sean are pussy-footing around each other, speaking but not finding the right things to say, then not speaking at all. Sean seems to be having second thoughts about everything where Conor is concerned, and Conor seems to be having the same. Sadly, things are still very up in the air with these two, and I’m really looking forward to the finishing chapter to see if they can work things out.

This one started a little slow for me, as it wasn’t quite the fast-pace sex fest as the first three. There is still plenty of good stuff though, and if you love the tone and humor of Conor and his crazy tale, you will find that this one is chock full of that. I laughed out loud more than once at some of Conor’s descriptions and am quite hooked on this fun and sexy series. I’m ready for the Sean/Conor grand finale though and eager for the story to continue in book 5.

Most of you already know how much I love M/M stories (my guilty pleasure with no remorse), so I am always looking for new authors, and new stories. I heard about Patrick and his books a few months ago. So, when the opportunity knocked my door, I had to answer. In this case I got the opportunity to review one of Patrick's books and I need to tell you, it was good very good (I think you would love it too). "Confessions of a Gay Rugby Player 4" is funny, romantic and very hot. I love the story and the characters, I found them strong with very well developed personalities and very good dialogues. I liked them all!!
I was enchanted in how the author, described the rugby game (while I was reading it, I had the feeling of being really there watching it), and the hot scenes are amazing. If you want to read something light and refreshing, that makes you smile, laugh and hot, this one is A MUST READ.

This isn’t quite how I thought this installment would start! Gah! Conor and Sean I need to smack your heads together wth boys?! I was hoping to see these two get together even if it was only for a few chapters but noooo Conor has moved on to Oisin who is very out and proud and I adored him. He’s a little clingy and at times downright annoying but he had me chuckling more than a few times and that’s a good thing.

One thing I really loved about this story is seeing the unsure, sometimes vulnerable Conor. There was a softer side to him even when he played the Dom to Oisin and what appeared to be a relationship that may work turned out to be one that has a lot of cracks, it seems Conor is still hung up on Sean no matter how much he tells himself he’s not.

Confessions of a Gay Rugby Player 4 is much the same as the other installments, with the exception of a lot more Rugby talk, its short, an easy read and packed full of sex it’s pure erotica. But the ending.....GAH! again! I’m left having to patiently wait for the next installment to see if Conor and Sean finally do something about getting together.

It seems as if I’ve been anticipating this installment forever. I can’t begin to tell you how excited I’ve been to read how Conor and Sean end up after their ugly spat in the previous book. And ah, damn it! It was so worth waiting for. As our dear Mr. Darcy would say, “The craic was fierce” *wink*

But this time around, I admit I was really surprised by the turn of things. You see, nearly a year has passed from that time and Conor and Sean are no longer what they used to be, they no longer are the joined at hip best friends you got used to see. A chasm is formed between them (damn that Richie) and Conor is now in a monogamous if you please relationship with Oisin. Shocked doesn’t even begin to describe what I felt. Let’s face it I’m a team Sean fangirl, so when I started reading the thoughts that swarmed my head were something like “Conor has a partner? And it’s not Sean? The Hell? Who is this guy?” Yeah, it is safe to say I was pissed and for nearly 99.9% of the read I was cussing the author with everything that I had...

Smoking Hot. I’ve been hearing some awesome things about Mr. Darcy’s work and wanted to see for myself. I’m so glad I did. This story, although Part 4 of his series, has me now running back to get the first three. It didn’t matter that I was an oddball and started in the middle, I was still able to keep up with the plotline and characters. The entire story was filled with hotties and the humor was hysterical. Mr. Darcy’s character, Conor, nails cocky and blunt. He brings it to a new level, and I love that. His inner voice is amazing as well I’m anxious to get started on the first parts of this story, but also looking forward to the next one. Great job by the author, definitely recommend

3.5 Still enjoying the trials and sexualations of Conor. A year has passed and things continue in the story from there. I now it's Confessions of a Rugby Player but there seemed to be a lot of Rugby in this one and several editing niggles.

And WTH? That is some cliffy Mr. Darcy :P
