Introducing Octopus 1.0 (RC)

About a year ago, I released the first Octopus beta. It was a little scary to put such a new product out so soon, and I wasn't sure what kind of feedback I would get. But I needn't have worried. The product has come a long way since that release, and the direction has changed a lot too, thanks to the support of an absolutely wonderful (and very patient!) group of beta testers.

This week, after a long incubation, Octopus 1.0 RC was released. Watch the video below to see what it looks like now:

If you used Octopus prior to 1.0, you'll notice there have been a lot of changes:

  • A new look and feel
  • Instead of SQL Server, we use RavenDB as the backend
  • Cleaner, friendlier URL's
  • More detailed release and deployment details pages
  • Security and permissions

Over the coming weeks I'll be blogging about these changes on this shiny new blog. Oh yes, did I mention we have a new website too?

Octopus has now matured into a real application, and it's time for the beta period to come to an end. The current 1.0.13 series of releases will be the last beta releases while we tidy a few things up. On July 4th I'll release the final 1.0 release, and we can say goodbye to the beta label.

To everyone who participated in the beta, you have my sincere thanks for helping to make Octopus the product it is today!
