Work on the A329M due to take place in January has been rescheduled until next summer.

Improvement works on the A329M Loddon Viaduct will now be carried out during the school holidays next summer when the roads are quieter.

Last month drivers faced two weeks of severe congestion when one lane of the dual carriageway was coned off for preparatory work to improve the safety of the Loddon Viaduct at Winnersh Triangle.

Wokingham Borough Council has rescheduled the £1.6 million project to replace the bridge’s noisy joints, install new permanent concrete safety barriers, improve drainage and signs and give the dual carriageway a low noise road surface.

Councillor Keith Baker, executive member for strategic planning and highways, said: “Unfortunately, these works cannot be avoided and have to be done.

“When finished this stretch of highway will be safer, quieter and won’t need major maintenance for some years.

“We realise there will be some disruption, but we will do everything we can to reduce any problems the works may cause.”
