Last year, I had the honor of attending GITEX AFRICA, the largest digital expo in Africa. This year, once again, I was thrilled by the intense competition between startups and major tech players, especially in the realms of AI, blockchain, IoT, and immersive AR/VR. Earlier this year, I took on a project that required using TypeScript. It was my first time building something with TypeScript, and the experience was definitely a challenging but rewarding journey. A few days ago, I had a conversation with Salaudeen Olanrewaju and he mentioned that he's planning to dive back into TypeScript with a new approach—studying for 30 minutes each day. I told him I’m on board for this challenge as well. TypeScript is a typed programming language that builds on JavaScript. It adds additional syntax to your JavaScript to support a tighter integration with your editor, this gives you the opportunity to catch errors early in your editor. In the code below, I created a variable of type string and used the replace() method, which worked fine. However, on line 9, I tried to assign a boolean value to the same variable. TypeScript threw an error because the variable was initially declared as a string, and only string methods can be applied to it. 🚀🚀🚀 So, here's to a lot more TypeScript content over the next few weeks!

I learn how to build websites wey go dey responsive and dynamic. But i no go lie, e bin dey sweet well well until we reach JavaScript. 🤣 Di wahala no be here, but as dem say, "Na perseverance dey open road." I push through, and I dey proud of how far I don go. 2 weeks ago I was talking to some designers that attended the webinar hosted by Precious Anizoba at Chigisoft Academy I literally told them how important you constantly need to be in front of your audience. Present an answer to their “How can I do this” or “How do I find someone that can do this”. Being a UX Designer is way beyond knowing how to use Figma. We design solutions that runs in 100s of screens with an endless design systems and not just making a beautiful UI end. You need to be able to predict and validate human behaviours. Meanwhile, this is how I normally create the moving effect in Figma. There are other ways you can also approach this but this seems to be the easiest way😍. #advancedprototyping #uxdesign #uidesign

So, I decided to start documenting my startup journey online. Mainly on Substack, but I will occasionally be posting here too. Building Tools for African Businesses: My Journey with Taaskly [2] - Jun-15-2024 We had a holiday on the 12th, and another is coming on the 17th and 18th. Yayyy, more time to work on Taaskly! At least, that's what I would have said if I weren’t fast approaching burnout. A 60-plus-hour work week is not exactly good for your body, you know—mentally, physically, or in any way. Enough rants; let’s get back to business. What did I get done this week? One of the things I carried over from last week was bookings. I mainly worked on the last aspects of it this week, which basically included validations on both the frontend and backend, and notifications on both WhatsApp and email. Done with all that, and you can actually create a booking on Taaskly. Secondly, I got a lot of authentication complaints and whatnot from folks, so I decided to add more auth methods, and so currently you can authenticate on Taaskly using phone number, email and password, email link, and Google Auth. This also meant that I had to change a couple of flows and cloud function implementations. Still working on this as I write this article. Lastly, what I want to get done before the holiday is over is to complete the feedback tool, taking inspiration from Canny and Insighto. I will be making this project open-source, and I believe it would be very important given that Taaskly will be working on multiple tools, and getting quality feedback will be very important. And also it is another tool African businesses can use on their way to success. In other news, I am thinking of creating a tester group chat. I have gotten friends who said they would be interested in testing Taaskly, and together with the feedback tool, I believe a group chat of testers would make sense. Also, I am looking into making video content, but I am too busy building. I will probably start making video content when I get back to Lagos. That’s all for now. Mentorship moments that turn into unexpected creative adventures. 🎨 During a recent design session, my mentee and I explored the art of UI enhancement through an interesting exercise - redesigning complex, visually striking websites. We chose charterlabs.io as our canvas, inspired by its stunning design. While her(Chiamaka Okeke) first attempt may not have hit the mark perfectly, that's exactly what mentorship is about - creating space for growth and learning. Together, we rebuilt the design from the ground up, breaking down complex elements into teachable moments. To add an extra layer of creativity, we incorporated a brilliant 3D character (credits to @Vedant Hegde) that perfectly complemented our redesign vision. Fun fact: This is my first attempt at video editing! I decided to step out of my comfort zone and create a short to showcase the design process and 3D walk-through properly. Learning never stops, right? Special thanks to Samuel Lasisi for encouraging me to dive into video editing and sharing valuable tips—your guidance made this possible.
