If heart-rate analysis, leaderboard filters, and other advanced tools weren’t enough to get you to shell out for Strava Premium, maybe some of the app’s newest perks will hook you. Starting today, Premium members can access special benefits at strava.com/premium/perks, like discounts from Wiggle, Science in Sport, and New Balance—with new discounts and participating brands being added regularly.

But that’s not the biggest new benefit offered to Strava Premium users. Because nothing can spike your real-world suffer score like crashing and having to replace all your gear, crashing without a ride home, or just crashing in general—the app also now offers insurance for smartphones and GPS devices damaged while Strava activities are recording; taxi reimbursement in the case of mechanical breakdowns; and other discounts on bike, travel, life, and health insurance.

Most of the new benefits—taxi reimbursement, device coverage, and race entry reimbursement in the event of injury—will be automatically included with no additional cost on top of your premium membership, after you activate with cyclist insurance company Sundays Insurance. Other add-ons, like bike, travel, and health insurance, can be purchased separately.

But don’t stop carrying spare tubes assuming the new Premium benefits will hook you up with a ride every time you flat—the taxi reimbursement caps out at $50 a year for accidents or mechanical breakdowns.

Upgrading to Strava Premium from the free version of the app costs $8 per month or $60 annually. Looking for other ways to insure your ride? USA Cycling now offers a $50/year Ride membership with insurance, legal assistance, and roadside assistance.
