Here are 10 meet records that could fall Friday through Sunday at the 19th Pan American U20 Championships in Trujillo, Peru:

LIVE WEBCAST INFO

Men’s 800 meters

The only record still standing from the meet’s first edition in 1980 in Sudbury, Canada belongs to Brazil’s Joaquim Cruz, who clocked 1:47.85.

Following a fourth-place finish in 1:45.58 racing against professionals June 10 at the Kingston Racers Grand Prix in Jamaica, Puerto Rico’s Ryan Sanchez Estrada is a strong favorite to finally eclipse the 37-year-old standard.

Americans Cameron Cooper and Terrell Jackson are also capable of running a faster time than Cruz. Cooper won the U.S. Junior title June 24 in 1:47.59 and Jackson has a personal-best 1:48.01.

Women’s hammer throw

Since the event was added to the schedule in 1995, Cuba has won more gold medals than any other country with five titles.

Included in that group of champions is Arasay Tondike, who set the record in 2005 with a mark of 212-7 (64.80m).

Cuba has another significant favorite to win gold in Ayamey Medina Roca, who also has the potential to surpass Tondike’s success. Medina Roca produced a 216-foot throw (65.85m) in February, but has a personal-best 226-3 (68.98m) from last year.

Men’s shot put

Americans have won 15 of the previous 18 titles in this event, including the record of 66-9.75 (20.36m) set by Mason Finley in 2009.

A pair of U.S. high school graduates, Jordan Geist of Knoch PA and Adrian Piperi of The Woodlands TX, will not only be looking to capture a 16th gold medal, but challenge Finley’s standard with the 6-kilogram implement.

Geist won the U.S. Junior title June 23 with a mark of 69-4.25 (21.14m) and Piperi placed second with an effort of 68-3 (20.80m). Esperanza CA graduate Bronson Osborn produced the best outdoor mark by a prep athlete with a 69-9.5 (21.27m) to place third last year at the World U-20 Championships in Poland.

Women’s 100-meter hurdles

American Tara Davis, an Agoura CA graduate, has her sights set on two meet records, this being the first target before her pursuit of the long jump standard.

Davis, a Georgia signee, edged George Walton Comprehensive GA sophomore Tia Jones by a 13.01 to 13.02 margin to win the U.S. Junior title June 23.

Jones set the national high school record last year at 12.84, with Davis producing the best prep performance under all conditions June 3 with a wind-aided 12.83 at the California state final. Davis has also run a wind-legal 12.95 this year.

Kristi Castlin, who captured a bronze medal at last year’s Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, set the Pan Am Junior record in 2007 by winning in 13.02.

Davis also has an opportunity to challenge the 2003 long jump record of 21-2.5 (6.46m) set by Cuba’s Yudelkis Fernandez. Davis won the California state title with a wind-legal 22-1.25 (6.73m) and has an all-conditions best with a wind-aided 22-3.75 (6.80m).

Men’s 1,500 meters

Canada holds only two men’s meet records, but this standard should remain with a countryman following the final, it’s just a question of which athlete.

Mike Woods established the mark in 2005 by clocking 3:45.72. A pair of Canadian standouts, Kevin Robertson and Kyle Madden, enter the meet with faster marks in the past month.

Robertson won the Ottawa Lions Twilight meet June 21 in 3:44.90 and Madden prevailed July 14 in the Guelph Speed River Twilight race in 3:44.98.

American Eric van der Els, a freshman at Connecticut, has an outside chance to upstage the Canadian stars after winning the U.S. Junior title June 24 in 3:46.84.

Women’s 100-meter dash

Khalifa St. Fort of Trinidad and Tobago is the defending champion, but this time the former St. Thomas Aquinas FL star has a legitimate opportunity to break the meet record.

American Chalonda Goodman clocked 11.22 in 2009 and St. Fort, who prevailed in 11.31 two years ago, captured her national championship June 24 in a personal-best 11.05.

Miami Southridge FL graduate Symone Mason, a Miami (Florida) signee, also has an opportunity to run faster than Goodman’s standard. Mason clocked 11.24 at the Bob Hayes Invitational on March 18.

Men’s 10,000 meters

The longest-standing male distance record belongs to Mexico’s Alejandro Villanueva, who captured gold in 1989 by running 29:28.6.

Brazil’s Daniel Ferreira do Nascimento made himself a legitimate contender to not only win the title, but challenge the mark after clocking 29:13.34 on June 6 at the Sao Bernardo do Campo Championships.

Should the 800 standard belonging to Joaquim Cruz be eclipsed, Ferreira do Nascimento could give Brazil another record on the track.

Women’s 400 meters

Jamaica’s only individual female record could be in jeopardy, with three athletes possessing strong potential to challenge the 2007 mark of 51.72 set by Bobby-Gaye Wilkins.

Alabama freshman Takyera Roberson won the U.S. Junior title June 24 in 51.35, with Texas A&M freshman Jaevin Reed taking second in 51.52.

Cuba’s Roxana Gomez Calderon is also a contender after clocking 51.59 on June 17 in Mexico.

Jamaica also holds the women’s 4x400 relay record of 3:23.70 from 1993.

Men’s long jump

The oldest field event record by an American athlete has the potential to be surpassed by another rising U.S. talent.

Dion Bentley set the long jump mark with a wind-legal 26-9.25 (8.16m) in 1989, the only American standout to leap beyond 8.00 meters in meet history.

Missouri freshman Ja’Mari Ward could become the second U.S. star to achieve the feat and take aim at the record following his 26-8.25 (8.13m) performance May 12 to win the SEC outdoor title.

Women’s 3,000-meter steeplechase

The first year the event was part of the meet schedule in 2005, after the 2,000 steeplechase was introduced in 2003, Brazil’s Sabine Heitling set the record by clocking 10:04.71.

Virginia Tech freshman Sarah Edwards has run under 10 minutes twice this year, including a personal-best 9:52.89 on May 26 at the NCAA East Regionals.

Edwards captured the U.S. Junior title June 22 in 10:14.67, ahead of Alexandra Harris (10:25.80), who placed third at the 2015 Pan Am U-20 Championships in 10:31.79 in Canada.
