CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Police in Charlotte say missing Clover, SC, man Michael "Randy" McFalls Sr was found deceased Wednesday. Officials say it appears McFalls took his own life.

The 52-year-old's cell phone pinged to the inner-loop of John Belk Freeway, the man's son said earlier Wednesday.

Family members reported McFalls Sr missing last Thursday, July 12, around 8:43 p.m. when he never returned home from work. Family said McFalls was last seen leaving work, where he has been a project manager since 1992, on Stuart Andrew Boulevard last around 4:30 p.m.

McFalls' supervisor said he saw him leave work and said he was acting fine. The supervisor says McFalls then told him he was heading home for the day.

His wife said he texted that he was stopping to get something to drink but that he was on the way home to Clover.

Neither McFalls nor his white Chevy Silverado pickup had been seen since. Family members say his cell phone, iPad and iWatch are all off, which was not normal for him.

"I mean, something has to be wrong for him to be gone," his son, Randy McFalls Jr said before McFalls' body was discovered Wednesday.

McFalls' son said police pinged his dad's phone and were following a lead to see if he was possibly spotted in Lincolnton. A co-worker said the elder McFalls has a work phone, but it died 30 minutes after he left work. The cell phone pinged but they don't know when it pinged.

"I was told they tracked the phone to the inner loop of John Belk Freeway and that was the last time any towers picked it up," McFalls Jr said.

During a media briefing Wednesday, Charlotte police said they developed information from McFalls' employer that was leading them in the right direction.

"We developed some information through his employer yesterday that's really putting us on the right direction on that case," Lt. Alex Watson said.

Police have not said exactly where McFalls' body was found.

Anyone with information is asked to call 911 immediately, or Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
