The South Carolina Department of Education’s Office of Health and Nutrition and End Child Hunger S.C. are partnering with S.C. Department of Education to feed about 195 children a day at the Florence Boys and Girls Club on Roughfork Street.

Studies show one in four kids struggle with hunger in the United States.

Some parents can't afford to feed their children three meals a day when school is out for summer break, according to Moriah Claxton, with the Florence Boys and Girls Club.

Claxton said the youngsters are provided breakfast and lunch for free from Monday through Friday.

End Child Hunger S.C. is hosting the second annual summer food service program tour this week as a part of the summer feeding program.

The purpose of this tour is to raise awareness about the summer food service program and cultivate local community advocates for the program, according to Ashley B. Page with USC Center for Research in Nutrition and Health Disparities End Child Hunger S.C.

Page said during the week-long tour, sites and sponsors will be highlighted in various counties throughout the state of South Carolina.
