Healthcare giants are increasingly relying on telehealth to meet their patients’ needs. And NewYork-Presbyterian is no exception.

New York City-based NewYork-Presbyterian Komansky Children’s Hospital has unveiled Pediatric Urgent Care, a new telehealth offering. It is part of NYP OnDemand, a suite of telemedicine services.

Through Pediatric Urgent Care, caregivers can have a video conference with a board-certified pediatric emergency physician, who will give advice and prescribe medication as necessary to the sick child. The doctor may also advise the caregiver to take the child in for an in-person evaluation.

Shari Platt, chief of pediatric emergency medicine at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center, noted that the service can be used to treat common conditions like vomiting, cough, fever, pink eye and skin rashes. “Our goal is to deliver immediate guidance and advice to a concerned parent, and to provide children with the best possible medical care,” she said in a statement.

The service is available seven days per week from 6:00 p.m. until midnight. Users can log on via NYP.org or the NewYork-Presbyterian mobile application.

Currently, Pediatric Urgent Care is only available to patients in New York state. But NYP plans to expand the service to Connecticut, Florida and New Jersey.

“NewYork-Presbyterian is always looking for new ways to make our world-class care more easily accessible to families,” Rahul Sharma, emergency physician-in-chief of NewYork-Presbyterian/Well Cornell Medical Center, said in a statement. “With the launch of Pediatric Urgent Care, families can now see a trained and experienced pediatric emergency physician from the comfort of their home.”

NewYork-Presbyterian initially launched NYP OnDemand in 2016. Along with support from philanthropic partners Rita E. and Gustave M. Hauser, it was created by NYP, ColumbiaDoctors and Weill Cornell Medicine. Before launching the suite, NewYork-Presbyterian had telestroke coverage in two of its nine hospitals.

In addition to Pediatric Urgent Care, NYP OnDemand also encompasses several other services, including Adult Virtual Urgent Care, Virtual Visits and Second Opinion.
