The development team behind the Debian-based Elive GNU/Linux distribution was proud to announce today the availability for download of a new Beta version towards the upcoming Elive 3.0 major release.

There's still a lot of work to be done before Elive 3.0 can be promoted to the stable channel, especially for the look and feel of the distribution, so today's Elive 2.9.5 Beta release is here to bring another layer of improvements and new features to the upcoming operating system.

For example, it adds great improvements to the overall design of the system by adding multiple transparent elements, 3D shadow effects, animated start up logo, and much more. For a first glimpse of all these changes, you should watch the video attached at the end of the article, courtesy of the Elive team.

"Great improvements in the designs for the stable release! Overall cleanup, lots of transparent elements, logo animated at start, shadows 3d effect, clock design," reads today's announcement. "The borders has now 4 buttons instead of 3, and there’s a hidden one that appears if a window cannot be closed."

Improved visual effects stability, updated translator tool

Among other changes that have been implemented in the Elive 2.9.5 Beta development release, we can mention improved stability for visual effects, especially when running the OS in live mode from the bootable medium, a fix for the lock screen, and the ability to use the Ctrl+S keyboard shortcut in Vim to save files.

Moreover, there's a tagbar plugin added to the Vim text editor so that it can recognize EDC source files, making it easier to browse elements, and the in-house built translator tool has been updated with a fix for the counter for translated sentences and the grammar checker.

Elive 2.9.5 Beta is available for download right now through our web portal of Linux downloads if you want to take if for a test drive on your personal computer and report bugs so that the development team can fix and polish everything before the final release of Elive 3.0, which should be out very soon now.
