Amanda Levete and Asif Khan recognised in Queen’s Birthday Honours list

Stirling Prize-winning architect Amanda Levete has been appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in the Queen’s 2017 Birthday Honours List

The head of AL_A was joined on the list, which was published last Friday, by Asif Khan, who was handed an MBE, and Terence Conran, who was added to the Order of the Companions of Honour for services to design.

Director of Manor Architects Johann Muldoon was also given an MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours 2017, which recognised more than 1,000 people.

Speaking about her CBE, Levete said: ‘I am very honoured to be recognised in this way. Architecture is a collaborative discipline and this is as much an accolade for my team at AL_A as it is for me.’

Last month AL_A completed its first scheme in Thailand – a 36-storey hotel and retail project in Bangkok – and in a few weeks its much-anticipated Exhibition Road project for the V&A will open to the public.

Earlier this month rising star Asif Khan, who is working on the new £250 million Museum of London project with Stanton Williams and Julian Harrap, also took the wraps off another key international project – the UK pavilion at the Expo 2017 in Astana, Kazakhstan.

On receiving the honour, Khan said: ‘[This MBE] represents all of the young architects fighting for our beliefs within this industry. That was my first thought on accepting this.’
