Metro is expanding its local purchasing program in Quebec, and putting 122 new grocery and fresh products from 22 local suppliers on store shelves.

The local purchasing program, which has been running in the province since 2013 and expanded to Ontario with a pilot project in Ottawa earlier this year, is debuting at eight Metro and Super C locations in the Saguenay-Lac-St-Jean region.

Café Marc Robitaille, Les Pastilles Au Miel Charbonneau, Camerises Mistouk, Épicéa, La Cannebergerie and Ferme Olofée are among the local suppliers.

“Our goal is to increase distinctive selection of local products, at a competitive price for our clientele. To do so, we provide personalized support to each one of those partner-suppliers” said Christian Bourbonnière, executive vice-president and Quebec division head for Metro, in a release.

Since its launch in Quebec, more than 800 new products from 200 suppliers have reached store shelves at Metro and Super C stores.
