English Dub Review: KADO: The Right Answer “Talnel”

Let’s party!

KADO: The Right Answer clocked in one of its best episodes with “Sansa.” Yaha-Kui zaShunina (Jason Liebrecht) wishes to broadcast sansa globally via television networks. This, however, alters the brain of the viewers.

As the preceding episode reveals, sansa changes the brain landscape. It’s what’s responsible for Kojiro Shindo’s (Ian Mead Moore) lack of need for sleep. Saraka Tsukai (Mikaela Krantz), International Negotiator for the Ministry in Japan though suggests at the end of “Sansa” zaShunina be sent back to the isotropic.

During “Talnel,” she invites Shindo to her family home. The two chat about dragons, animals, and evolution. But their conversation is decidedly esoteric. As Tsukai explains about evolution, it happened naturally. As such, Saraka wants to purge the world of zaShunina. Although, she further clarifies that it’s the self-driven natural evolution of life from dust into humanity and civilization she wishes to preserve.

I like her approach. Rather than zaShunina being a menacing foe, it’s his generosity that poses a threat. Setten CEO Adam Ward (John Burgmeier) reappears with his motivation to advance humanity. Additionally, Ward offers to use his company-owned satellite for the broadcast.

Like the previous episode, there’s a lot of development in “Talnel.” Shindo wishes to chat with zaShunina. The sentiment is mutual. Moreover, Shindo reveals that he’s not entirely sure if the continued advancement provided and perpetuated by zaShunina is beneficial or harmful. There’s increased complexity. This element suits KADO. Repeatedly, there are several levels of choice and decision making.

The convenience of Ward having a satellite is a bit over the top. Sure, he’s the CEO of a Google-esque tech company. But this aspect feels too neatly tied up. Still, it’s a minor moment in a fantastic episode. Whereas early in the series zaShunina was heralded by the masses, now he’s greeted with skepticism. This even permeates Shindo who made the judgment call to follow zaShunina’s lead and accept his gifts to advance humanity. I’m really keen to see what else zaShunina has in store and learn more about his true origins.
