Emma Watson's Top Is Made Out of Leftover Fabric Scraps, and It Looks Incredible

Emma Watson's advocacy for sustainable fashion was cast into the spotlight when she headed off around the world on her Beauty and the Beast press tour and started an Instagram account devoted solely to good-for-the-planet OOTDs that she wore every single day of her (very long) trip. She blew our minds even further when she shared the credits for the outfit she wore during the film's “Something There” musical number on the press tour account: Every component of it was ethically sourced and manufactured, down to the handwoven nettle making up the bodice panel.

But she's a woman on a mission, and even several months after the Beauty and the Beast press tour ended, her press tour Instagram account is still going strong. Watson's currently traveling to promote her newest film, The Circle, and she's using the spotlight and publicity to continuing highlighting sustainable fashion.

Case in point: a top she wore on Friday that was made entirely from recycled fabric scraps. With a close-fitting cropped bodice and drapey off-the-shoulder sheer sleeves, it's basically sustainable couture.

"Top is @breelayneofficial and made in downtown LA by local artisans from mesh and lined in silk. Both materials were leftovers discarded by other designers, and were bought to recycle and repurpose in new garments. For every item sold, a tree is planted," she captioned the post.

True to form, she's invested in each detail of her outfit, giving the context—and even history—behind all of the other components of her outfit too.
