Kindle Fire: Pay to avoid advertising

How can you offer decent configuration on a device yet make it cheap? This was the exactly dilemma that confronted Amazon at one time. With iPad having much better hardware the e-reader manufacturing company had to beat the competition. To do this, they lend the oldest marketing trick. Generating revenue through advertising.

Last week, Amazon Kindle technical support was able to present its new Fire HD models, starting at $199 for a 7-inch screen and $299 for a 8.9-inch display. It is much cheaper than Apple's iPad, which costs $499 and upwards, but on the other hand, it is accepted that ads appear on the home screen.

But if the features offered by iPad are on par with the configuration offered by Amazon only then the Fire can be declared as the clear winner so let’s compare these two devices.

iPad mini 4 has a gorgeous 7.9-inch Retina display, yet it's only 6.1mm thin and weighs just 0.65 pounds, making it small enough to hold in one hand. It has a powerful A8 chip with 64-bit desktop-class architecture, advanced iSight and FaceTime HD cameras, Wi-Fi and LTE connectivity, iCloud, the breakthrough Touch ID fingerprint sensor, and up to 10 hours of battery life. It also includes great apps for productivity and creativity and powerful new features in iOS 9 like multitasking.

Now let’s see what the Amazon’s device has to offer. How I setup a adword account for

The second generation e-reader has become available for purchase on February 23, 2009. The e-reader features a text-to-speech option to read the text aloud and 2 GB of internal memory of which 1.4 GB is user-accessible. By Amazon's estimates, the 2 can hold about 1,500 non-illustrated books. Unlike the first generation e-reader, e-reader does not have a slot for SD memory cards. It was slimmer than the original e-reader. The e-reader features a Freescale 532 MHz, ARM-11 90 nm processor, 32 MB main memory, 2 GB flash memory and a 3.7 V 1530mAh lithium polymer battery.

Thus we see that the e-reader is as much cost effective as it is heavy on features.

At first, there was no possibility to disable these ads. All new e-reader products are "Special Offers" models, where the user is offered special offers - or in another word: advertisements. The old e-Reader also shows advertisements, but here you can pay to get rid of the ads.

Amazon confirmed last week against CNET that there is no way to buy such an "opt-out" for the Fire HD. This decision triggered sharp criticism, and only one day before Amazon had changed its position. Now, however, there is an opportunity to buy free from the advertisements.

A spokesperson for Amazon confirms in an email that customers can pay $ 15 and thus get rid of these "special offers". This applies to both the new Fire HD models and the old Fire, which now costs $ 159.

It has never been officially possible to buy e-reader Fire in Denmark, but both the new Fire HD and the old Fire are available for sale in Europe from 25 October.

In the UK Amazon store, the price is £ 129 for the Fire and £ 159 for Fire HD with 16GB and 7-inch screen.
