Director of Maintenance and Operations Phillip Derkowski

The Brenham School Board got an update Monday evening on the renovations at the new Brenham Early Childhood Learning Center.  The campus will occupy the old Alton Elementary facility and will consolidate the Pre-K classes for the district.  Philip Derkowski, Director of Maintenance and Operations said that the work was on schedule to be completed by the first day of school.  Kitchen, bathroom, and air-conditioning work is mostly complete.  New flooring will begin being installed today (Tuesday).  The board also approved the purchase of new kitchen equipment for the campus.  Superintendent Walter Jackson pointed out that the district had utilized used equipment where possible, and that this purchase was for items that were not available.

The board also got an update on the renovations at Krause Elementary School.  Scotty Lewis with Project Control said that the replacements to the mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems are on schedule.  Those systems are being updated this summer, and the more cosmetic work and lighting is now expected to be done next year.  That campus was added to the district 30 years ago.

In other action, the board awarded several bids.  Kolkhorst Petroleum was approved as the provider of gasoline and diesel fuel for the next school year.  The board also approved the purchase of an Expedition from Appel Ford for the Career and Technology Education Department to use.   That department has seen increased enrolment in recent years.
