Sunflower Arles Memories

A painting is like a newly constructed home. It grows on you after you've lived with it for awhile.
—Vernita Hoyt

Sunflower Arles (pictured below) was painted several years ago and hung on a wall of my home until October when I decided to show it in the DaVinci Artists Gallery as one of my featured paintings. Since that time, people have complimented me on the painting. Sunflower Arles has grown on me. I always liked it because the painting had much personal meaning for me, and that personal meaning has grown as time passes.

There was a time when I would offer every painting for sale, but no more. As years passed, I learned that some paintings are more valuable than money.  The painting Sunflower Arles takes me back to France, sitting at a sidewalk cafe with my daughter, buying French perfume for my mother, a week stay in a medieval village, breaking bread for breakfast with a group of travelers from different European countries, the amphitheater and aquaducts in Provence, walking through the market in Arles where Van Gogh painted, and a second week for a tour of the great cathedrals and the art museums of Paris. Some paintings need to stay with the artist. Sunflower Arles is such a painting. Sunflower Arles is a painting of memories.
