Me and my boyfriend were due to leave Byron Bay in the evening and decided we’d take a trip up to the lighthouse as we didn’t want to spend the day at the beach getting covered in sand, only to spend 12 hours on a coach down to Sydney without being able to shower!

We didn’t have a map or any sort of route to follow, we just set off in the general direction. I would like to point out that this is never the best way to start any trip in Australia, especially during the hottest part of the day and without much sun protection when your skin is as fair as mine!

The walk itself wasn’t much fun as we ended up walking along the road with cars whizzing past us. I’ve since had a look at the walking trail we should’ve taken which sounds much more appealing as you walk through rainforest and get great views of the ocean.

However, the view from the top was worth the huffing and puffing, the colour of the sea is something I’ll never forget. It’s also Australia’s most Easterly point, so it’s worth a visit just to say you’ve been! There’s a little café up there where you could grab a coffee or you could take a picnic up and find a quiet spot. It’s also supposed to be a good place to see humpback whales and dolphins, so take a little time to explore. It’s definitely worth a visit and is short enough to do if you’re only passing through as you can drive up to the lighthouse and park.

Just remember, take sun protection, something to drink, and a camera!
