Bill Gates is one of the most successful people on the planet, so it's no shock that he gets asked a lot for career advice.

With college graduation season now in full-swing, Gates took to Twitter to offer his advice on what he'd do if he were just graduating now, and admits he has one big regret from when he started out, something he wishes he had known decades earlier.

Gates, who regularly tops lists of "the most successful college dropouts", said that there were a few things he wishes he'd known when he'd left college, including that intelligence takes many forms and isn't as important as he used to think.

The book he recommends is The Better Angels of Our Nature: Why Violence Has Declined by Stephen Pinker. In the book, Pinker argues that violence in society has declined, and that "the way to explain the decline of violence is to identify the changes in our cultural and material milieu that have given our peaceable motives the upper hand."

Gates took hope from the book, and said that it has informed his worldview.

Graduates and non-graduates alike have praised Gates for his thread, his advice for college graduates, and his message of hope.

Gates expands upon his thoughts in an essay to the Class of 2017 on Mic.

"Congratulations!" he starts. "You’ve just accomplished something I never managed to do – earn a college degree."
