TYLER, TX (KLTV) - Congressman Louie Gohmert introduced new legislation this week in order to ensure that military personnel receive paychecks if the governments shuts down.

It's called the ASAP Act, and stands for the "Armed Services Always Paid" Act. It would apply to all branches of the military.

As it stands now, Congress has until midnight on Friday to pass a spending bill, or the government will shut down. The Congressman says this bill is similar to a 2013 law.

"In 2013, the Pay our Military Act was signed into law. That act, which allowed members of the armed forces to receive full pay and benefits during the shutdown, was passed unanimously by the House and Senate. However, the 2013 bill only exempted military pay for Fiscal Year 2014, not for any future years."
