Prayer Alert

Christian student expelled for views on sexuality takes University to court

Felix Ngole in court tomorrow to challenge University's decision
Please pray for Felix Ngole as he appears at the High Court tomorrow (25 April).

Felix was dismissed from a social work course at the University of Sheffield after expressing the biblical view of sexuality as part of a Facebook discussion.

Tomorrow he will ask the High Court to grant permission for a judicial review so that he can challenge his dismissal from the course.
Felix is being represented by Standing Counsel to the Christian Legal Centre, Paul Diamond.

'Not allowed to enrol on a course'

Felix made comments about the biblical view of marriage and sexuality during a Facebook discussion about Kim Davis, the US marriage registrar who expressed a conscientious objection to issuing marriage certificates to same-sex couples.

An anonymous complaint was made about his comments.

The University's Fitness to Practise committee said he had "transgressed boundaries which are not deemed appropriate for someone entering the Social Work profession" and that his actions would have an effect on his "ability to carry out a role as a Social Worker".

Felix was dismissed from his social work course in February 2016 and told that he was not allowed to enrol on a course which would lead to a professional qualification.

But the University had no evidence that Felix would treat homosexual individuals differently because of their sexual orientation.

Pray for Felix

With the help of the Christian Legal Centre, Felix complained to the University watchdog, the Office of the Independent Adjudicator, but in January 2017 it ruled that the University had acted fairly by dismissing him.

After exhausting internal procedures, Felix is now pursuing a judicial review claim against the University, arguing that his freedom to share his views and manifest his faith has been violated by the University.

Please pray for the Judge who hears Felix's case and for his legal team as they represent and support Felix.

Please pray that the Judge will grant permission for judicial review and that ultimately, the right for Christians to express their views during discussions will be protected.

Please use Twitter, Facebook and email to let others know.
