Profile

Dr. Diane Benoit is a highly respected authority on children's issues. She is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Toronto,
Project Investigator in the Research Institute at the Hospital for Sick Children, and Staff Psychiatrist at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Ontario.
The Impact of Family Violence, Abuse, & Neglect on Children

Research findings show that starting early during the first year of life, children can be negatively affected, and even traumatized, by what they experience or witness.

Dr. Benoit's research focuses on the assessment and treatment of difficulties in the child-parent relationship, especially the attachment relationship. She has developed and evaluated an intervention that focuses on the promotion of sensitive caregiving and secure attachment in infants and young children and on the reduction of caregiver behaviours that are linked to serious difficulties in the child-parent attachment relationship. Her research activities have also focused on the assessment of treatment of feeding disorders and failure to thrive in infants and young children.
