In the process of testing the Genesis 2.5.0 update I had the unfortunate experience of the layout of my customized template breaking.
Whoops! Where did that nicely centered logo go! To the left…
Luckily a quick inspection with Chrome Dev Tools revealed the culprit. The site title tag was changed from an H1 to a P HTML tag. Not seen here because it is now behind the logo, the site description which was previously hidden became visible text. That’s because in Genesis the site description is now a P tag instead of an H2. Changing the custom styles accordingly fixed the problem nicely.
I can understand why Studiopress made the change. H1 in the site title is old school and lame SEO in the modern world. It’s never fun to have structural elements changed on you by a framework update. Especially unfun when the change is not mentioned in the Changelog. But that’s why we update on staging servers, and not live, right!
- Note on this design – sometimes a client will specify hideous elements in a visual design and not budge. That may have happened here. In those cases, at least the client loves the design!
