RSP Film Room No. 110: RB Aaron Jones (UTEP)

Jones, an underrated running back in the 2017 NFL Draft, earns a look in this RSP Film Room episode with Matt Waldman and 4for4.com’s Joe Holka.

If you look strictly at Jones’ depth of talent grade in the 2017 Rookie Scouting Portfolio, he’s on par with Seattle reserve Alex Collins in my pre-draft publication’s three-year rankings at running back. If you look closer, the two reasons Jones’ score wasn’t the same as Melvin Gordon were pass protection and ball security—two easily improvable areas.

Jones is one of my favorite sleepers in this draft class. So much so, that I misstated his 40-time as 4.41 about three times in this episode with Joe Holka. Jones runs a 4.56-second 40, but I suspect Holka knew this and was too polite to tell me that I forgot his correct measurement in this drill.

One thing is certain: you won’t forget Jones after you watch these clips that Holka and I provide for this film room episode. The UTEP back has NFL starter upside and he might be the best receiving back in this class if you don’t count Curtis Samuel as a runner.
