New Hanover ranks as 11th healthiest county in state
SOUTHEASTERN NORTH CAROLINA (WECT) - New Hanover is the 11th healthiest county in the state of North Carolina, according to an annual survey by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.
The organization began ranking the health of each county in 2010. The group studies length of life, quality of life, health behaviors, clinical care, social and economic factors and physical environment when developing its rankings.
New Hanover, which was 14th in 2016, received high rankings for clinical care (fourth) and physical environment (seventh) this year.
Pender County made a huge leap in the 2017 rankings, going from 33rd a year ago to 20th. It ranked high in quality of life (16th) and length of life (20)
Brunswick County moved up a spot to 44th.
Columbus County, which ranked dead last out of 100 counties in each ranking before jumping to 96th last year, fell back a spot to 97th this year.
Bladen County didn't move up or down the list, sitting at 91st again.
