How To Take A Great #OOTD For Instagram

Happy Sunday! I hope everyone's had a fabulous weekend so far. As many of you probably know from following me on Instagram, I love to share photos of my outfits, or #OOTDs. I have a lot of friends who ask me who takes my photos (roommates, co-workers, parents, literally everyone) and how I get them to look the way that they do. So, today I wanted to share some tips and tricks for taking a great outfit photo, and am sharing some of my most-liked photos from my own account. Let's do this.

1. don't go empty-handed

"What do I do with my hands???" is a thought that always goes through my head when taking an outfit photo. I'm so much more comfortable when I have a bag to hold, or in this case a matcha latte. It just gives you one less thing to think about.

2. line it up

If you're taking a photo in front of a background with graphic elements, make sure everything lines up. You can use the grid feature on your phone to estimate when the lines are straight and the tilt feature when you edit to make sure it looks even.

3. Go for a detail shot

Not all #OOTDs have to be full body shots: In fact, sometimes the best ones aren't! If you're wearing a shirt with cool detailing or carrying a great bag, let those elements stand out.

4. consider your background

Everyone loves a photo where the colors are coordinated. I wore this jacket with the intention to walk past Pietro Nolita, so I knew it would be a fun photo to just dive full-on into the pink color scheme.

5. show off your personality

There's nothing like a fur jacket and a leather baseball cap to make you feel like a badass, so don't be afraid to act like it!

6. have your photographer shoot from below

Getting a shot from below is probably my favorite for #OOTDs. It makes your legs look longer and it's an angle that people don't see from eye level, which inherently makes it more interesting.
