THETSpotlight: #LetsTalk Depression
For over twenty years, we have been working to improve understanding and access to mental health treatment. From the introduction of a post-natal depression programme in post-war Uganda to novel approaches to battling stigmas in Zambia, we are proud to be furthering global efforts. It is particularly poignant today on World Health Day that we stand together and acknowledge the urgent need to break down barriers and talk about depression and mental health in general.

Health Worker Profile: Ruth
Ruth is a young bipolar patient and mother to her three year-old daughter, her life has changed thanks to the Brain Gain II programme in Uganda. She came to accept her condition and is now helping others fight stigma and understand that people living with bipolarism can conduct a normal life. Here is her story

Together We Can Overcome
"In every street, in every corner, we find those suffering from neuropsychiatric disorders. They are silent victims of neglect and abuse experiencing human rights violations across the globe." Pearson Moyo, country-lead for the Mental Health Literacy and Improved Patients Safety Empowering Communities Project run by the NHS Highlands – Chipata General Hospital Partnership highlights the Zambian context.

Health Worker Profile: Kusha Thapa
Throughout Nepal people with mental health problems are highly stigmatized. As part of a partnership between Bournemouth University – Tribhuvan University, there have been a series of workshops providing mental health training for maternity care providers, a much neglected health focus. Kusha Thapa speaks of her experiences in our latest health worker profile

Strengthening Global Mental Health Partnerships
Currently, more than 33% of countries allocate less than 1% of their total health budget to mental health. Following the HPSymposium a new mental health collaborative was inspired to come together after the Health Partnership Symposium, Petty and Randy explain why sharing knowledge and practice across country borders is so crucial in the battle to improve mental health care.

Launch of our Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
We are excited to launch our KPIs which provide us with eight goals against which we can measure our progress. Every year we will adopt a different impact theme around which to centre our focus. For 2017, our impact theme will examine how our work is (or is not) accelerating gender equality.
