New fun, food-orientated volunteering opportunity

Food Nation is a Social Enterprise passionate about food, nutrition and health. They are a trusted and recognised provider of food education to schools, businesses and communities across Newcastle upon Tyne and the North East. Working closely with Public Health, Food Nation delivers innovative services that tackle food and nutrition related issues and reduce health inequalities.

Their services include:
  • a range of cooking skills training courses
  • food growing education programmes for schools and community groups
  • healthy eating initiatives for disadvantaged and vulnerable people
  • weekly social lunches to prevent social isolation at their restaurant Harissa Kitchen in Sandyford
They cannot do any of this work without the help of volunteers. They need volunteers to help during cooking sessions, helping them to run smoothly by chatting with participants, helping them get to grips with skills, helping to create a fun and relaxed atmosphere and there’s always a bit of washing up to do! As well as cooking skills classes volunteers can also help out at the allotment picking lovely veggies for us to use in their restaurant, Harissa.

One thing their volunteers always enjoy about working with Food Nation is getting to know the participants and watching as their cooking skills and confidence develop over time. It is a rewarding experience where you can meet a range of lovely new people of every age and background.

If this is something you or anyone you know would be interested in, or would like to know a bit more, please contact Food Nation.
