When Zaha Hadid designed a superyacht

A superyacht designed by Zaha Hadid for German builders Blohm + Voss makes a unique nautical statement—much like the architect herself
When Zaha Hadid designed a superyacht

It isn't just the buildings that bear her undeniable mark; Zaha Hadid had also ensured that the benefit of her considerable expertise, extraordinary vision and bold aesthetic extended to the world of yachts as well. German builders Blohm + Voss had approached the Pritzker Architecture Prize winner to design their quintet of superyachts, called the Unique Circle. Her design for the first of the lot is unlike anything you could have seen, but just like everything that she did—completley inspired and totally original. Christened the JAZZ, this superyacht exterior is made up of interwoven beams, and resembles something out of the environement it is meant to inhabit. The 90-metre-long yacht is characterized by a sharp prow, strong enough to break through ice, it would seem, and a more open stern.

With the architecture of the yacht making such a strong statement, Hadid kept the interiors minimal, white and clean, with the rounded cutouts in the ceiling filtering in a controlled amount of natural light. Built from a 128-metre prototype that she had designed, JAZZ's design has been engineered to cut through water while retaining the main elements of the design.

An architect who boldly ventured where few dare, Zaha Hadid's legacy lives on through her remarkable creations.
