The Conservative Party in Elmbridge borough has promised to carry on "standing up for Surrey" in negotiations with the government.

In May's county council elections, the party will field nine candidates across Elmbridge's nine divisions.

Representing the Tories will be Mary Lewis, Cobham; Mike Bennison, Hinchley Wood, Claygate and Oxshott; Bruce Finch, The Dittons; Peter Szanto, East Molesey and Esher; Steve Bax, West Molesey; Rachael Lake, Walton; John O'Reilly, Hersham; Tim Oliver, Weybridge; and Tony Samuels, Walton South and Oatlands.

The manifesto says: "Conservatives are delivering a strong economy, great schools and investing in our roads infrastructure, despite financial austerity.

"Under the Conservatives, Surrey’s economy has grown 20%, unemployment is low and apprenticeship take up is high. We are the best county for superfast broadband connection in the country.

"We have and will continue to invest in Surrey’s schools. 93% are good or outstanding as rated by Ofsted.

"We have created 13,000 school places over the last six years – the equivalent of 32 large primary schools.

"We will build a further 11,000 school places by 2021. Our goal is a place for every child in a good school.

"As part of our 'Project Horizon’, we have resurfaced more than 250 miles of roads over the last four years and we have plans to resurface many more, while extending the programme to pavements too.

"Our residents are living longer and that’s great news. However, this also means the cost of adult social care is rising year on year, while the funding Surrey receives from the government continues to fall.

"We have shown that we will always stand up for Surrey in getting the very best deal from government that we can.

"At the same time we will continue to make the council more efficient, eliminate waste and make residents’ money go further.

"Conservative county councillors will work with our borough council colleagues to safeguard our greenbelt as we meet the demand for new housing.

"We will protect our precious environment – this includes engaging proactively and taking a tough line with Heathrow Airport over noise and our air quality.

"A vote on May 4 for your Conservative Party candidate will elect local councillors with a positive vision for Surrey who will work for our county, for your local community and for you."
