Stouty McStoutface steals show at beer festival

In a result that sounds as though it should be an April fool, the best brew of the CAMRA Gloucester Beer Festival 2017 was… Stouty McStoutface.

As reported first by gloucestershirelive.co.uk, the drink, which is made by the Mad Dog brewery in South Wales, was declared ‘the beer of the festival’ at the event, which was held on Saturday and Sunday at Gloucester’s Blackfriars Priory.

Inspired by Boaty McBoatface, the name suggested for a new polar research ship following a competition that went viral online last year, the brew from Mad Dog may have won the public’s favour on taste, but it doubtless also caught their attention due to its memorably silly name – and as a result, sold out at the festival.

However, Mad Dog’s brew isn’t the only Stout to carry this name.

According to untapped.com, both The Bournemouth Brewing Co. and the Bandit Brewery also make and sell a Stouty McStoutface beer.

The brews are, however, far from alone in taking a funny name. With brands such as Pigs Ass Porter, Apocalypse Cow and Ill Tempered Gnome, the beer industry has a long history of selecting silly names to sell its brews.
