Sarah's Corner Café in Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, is offering discounts to people who put their phone in a basket and refrain from checking it while they are at the table
If diners can get through the meal without the urge to check their cell phones, they are rewarded with the discount.
The discount only applies to groups of four or more people and a list of rules has been posted on the window outside the restaurant.
Owner Barry Lynch told GMA that groups of diners are given interactive games like old fashioned Hangman and Tic Tac Toe to encourage family conversation.
He said the idea was set in motion after observing one particular family who regularly come in to eat after church on Sunday.

The owner of the cafe in Stroudsburg, Barry Lynch, said most customers have started taking part and it had taken on a life of its own
'Every time I went over, one or two of the kids and sometimes the parents would be on the phone. I also knew the dad would commute to New York for work every day, which takes a lot of time,' Lynch said.
'I asked him about that and he said, "Yeah, I still do it. It's so nice to be together and these breakfasts are rare". And when he said that, I thought, "Oh wow. Something is going on here. I need to do something".'
'A lot of people are starting to do it and it’s taken on a life of its own. I get huge feedback. Massive feedback.'
