iHeartRadio Hits 100 Million Users

iHeartRadio, America’s largest radio conglomerate and one of the biggest players in the streaming music game, has just announced that it has reached the incredible milestone of 100 million registered users.

100 million registered users is certainly an impressive statistic, but it's worth focusing on the “registered” aspect. Registered users mean that 100 million accounts have been created, but that doesn’t necessarily ensure that all of those people are still using the site.

A representative for the company wouldn’t comment on how many monthly active users or paying subscribers the platform had been able to attract, especially since that part of the business is still relatively new for iHeartRadio.

Similar to Pandora, iHeartRadio initially offered free access to radio listening, be it from traditional, terrestrial stations, or from custom ones fans made based on artists, genres, etc. From there, the company continued to update its radio products, and this past December, the broadcast giant officially entered the on-demand streaming race by launching two new products: iHeartRadio All Access and Plus. The two come at different price points ($9.99 and $4.99 per month, respectively) and feature different listening options and special features, such as playlist creation and offline listening.

iHeartRadio is now the second streaming platform to reach the 100 million registered users mark, following behind Spotify, which officially hit nine digits last June. Earlier this month, the world’s largest streaming platform admitted it had acquired 50 million paying customers, which means Spotify's total user figure is well north of 100 million, though the company wouldn’t comment on how many more it had added since its June announcement (the Swedish streamer is likely waiting for another milestone to grab headlines). Pandora isn't too far behind, but it has been losing users slowly, and at this rate, it might not reach 100 million consumers anytime soon.
