BGSjam9, our ninth official game jam at Buffalo Game Space, is coming up and we want you there making games! Whether it's your first time or your hundredth, BGSjam9 has room for everyone of all skill levels!

I've never jammed before - what should I know?

First off, awesome! We're excited to have you make a game with us! Second, we recommend reading this piece we put together a few years back for one of our first game jams. It covers most of the essentials pretty well.

What do I need to bring?

Beyond yourself, you'll need some gear of some sort for making a game. Whether that's your office desktop, a laptop, or just some pencils and paper is up to you. We'll have ample table space and seating, as well as power and both wired and wireless internet access. We also ask that attendees bring $20 for donation to help us provide everyone with enough food and drinks to keep them sustained for the duration of the weekend.

What's this itch.io thing?

Glad you asked! itch.io is an amazing platform for both developers and gamers. It lets anyone put their own games up on the web and sell them for whatever they so choose (even $0!), as well as serve as a community for developers to talk to their audience and other creators. It also serves as a host for game jams, and we're very excited to be hosting BGSjam9 here on itch.io. To participate, you'll need to create an account on itch.io if you don't have one already (it's free) and then register on the BGSjam9 game jam page. Before the jam ends on 7pm, you'll need to upload a build of your game to this page. This way it'll be available on your own itch.io page as well as alongside all the other games made over the course of the weekend! You'll be able to share it with your friends and family and show them what you were able to accomplish at the event.
