A desperate craving for McDonald’s can force a person to take some pretty extreme action.

That’s what happened with an eight-year-old boy from Ohio, who wanted a cheeseburger so badly that he grabbed the keys to his dad’s van and, with his four-year-old sister in the passenger seat, drove a mile and a half to his nearest Maccy D’s.

After all that, he didn’t even order a Big Mac. What a waste.

Jacob Koehler, a police officer in the town of East Palestine, told the Weirton Daily Times the boy, whose identity is not known, learned to drive on YouTube.

When their parents fell asleep at home, the boy and his sister climbed into the van.

Alarmingly, witnesses said he appeared to drive relatively safely – stopping at red lights and making a few turns – and incredibly, no one was hurt.

It was a shock for the staff at the drive-through McDonald’s, who initially thought they were the victims of a bizarre prank.

Koehler said: ‘The workers thought that the parents were in the back, but obviously they weren’t.’

Police in the town had already been alerted by people who saw the youngster at the wheel.

FOX 8 Cleveland reported that once inside the restaurant, the children were spotted by a family friend who happened to be eating there, and the friend called the siblings’ grandparents.

The crazy story has a happy ending, too – because the kids enjoyed a cheeseburger, nuggets and fries before their grandparents arrived.

No charges have been filed.
