Happy International Women's Day!

Did you know that in 2015 India ranked 130th out of 155 countries in the Gender Inequality Index?

Do you want to create change?

Take part in our women's empowerment program!

  • In India, particularly in rural parts, women have a disadvantage in every area of life from education and employment to healthcare and social status.
  • There are forced early marriages and problems of domestic violence happening every day.
  • Close to 245 million Indian women lack the basic capability to read and write. Adult literacy rates for ages 15 and above for the year 2000 were—female 46.4% and male 69% (Source http://cafindia.org)
  • The average nutritional intake of women in India is 1400 calories daily. The necessary requirement is approximately 2200 calories. 38% of all HIV positive people in India are women yet only 25% of beds in AIDS care centres in India are occupied by them. 92% of women in India suffer from gynaecological problems. 300 women die every day due to childbirth and pregnancy related causes. The maternal mortality ratio stands at 212 per 100,000 live births in 2007-09.(Source http://cafindia.org)

We focus on women’s education and confidence building to help women break this cycle. Our workshops will teach numeracy, English, life skills, computer skills as well as healthcare workshops to give women a better advantage in life.

  • This program is based in Kerala (South India) and Kolkata (East India). You can choose either location. Kerala has a minimum of 1 week and Kolkata has a minimum of 4 weeks for the women's empowerment programs.
  • No prior skills are needed but if you have any teaching experience or knowledge of income generation activities to engage our women in, that would be great!

We can work together to help women in India develop and grow within their own communities and access better, brighter futures.
