If you've been begging for a second season of The Night Manager, you might finally get your wish.

Director Susanne Bier has finally confirmed that scripts are "slowly being developed", but it seems they're taking their time. And for good reason, as Susanne explains below.

"We all very much want to do a season two, but the thing we absolutely do not want is to do something that does not live up to the level of season one," she said (via Broadcast).

"That would be a really bad idea."

Bier previously suggested that The Night Manager could return after "a bit of time".

"I think it's actually really healthy if it happens and there is a bit of time," the Oscar winner explained. "Because you have to overcome the fear of, 'How does it ever get as good again?' – you have to let go of that and just go with the [new] material.

"So we'd love to do it, but we don't know when or how it will happen."

The Night Manager producer Simon Cornwell revealed back in October that the BBC and US broadcaster AMC are both keen for more episodes.

The first season was based on John le Carré's novel but any follow-up would be an original sequel.

Tom Hiddleston starred as Jonathan Pine, a former soldier and hotel night manager recruited by British intelligence to work as an undercover operative and take down the corrupt Richard Roper (Hugh Laurie).
