Samsung unveils ‘Samsung Bixby’; its New Voice Assistant

Samsung has finally unveiled its own voice assistant for Samsung smartphones. It is called ‘Bixby’. Upcoming Samsung Galaxy S8 will also come with a dedicated button for it.

Samsung says that its Bixby assistant will be different from Siri and Cortana because of deeper integration into apps. It will offer several voice commands to perform a range of actions. It will also be able to understand the commands with incomplete information and prompt users to provide more information for the task.

When the app becomes Bixby-enabled, Bixby will be able to perform almost every task that the application is capable of performing. Bixby will support all pre-installed Samsung apps and support for more apps will come soon.

Users will be able to call upon Bixby at any time and it will understand the current context, the state of the app and will allow users to carry out the current work-in-progress.

The company says that Bixby is meant to be a helper on your Samsung phone and make it easier to accomplish tasks. As the Bixby comes with deeper integration with installed apps, it will make more reliable and better than Google’s Now on Tap.

Bixby is new and it may not have the power of machine learning to compete with already available Siri, Alexa, Google Assistant, and Cortana. So, Samsung has focused on smaller tasks on the devices that have been ignored by other popular AI based assistants.
